<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\nShinra Creative Works was once introduced as a personal DIY project. However, its true beginning lies in a conversation with a senior from my university days\u2014when we found ourselves wondering, \u201cCould we create something meaningful together?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Returning to that original spark, we have taken time to reflect on our journey so far and the direction we wish to pursue from here. With that renewed perspective, we have reconstructed the core concept of Shinra Creative Works. Shinra Creative Works is a project launched in 2025 by two collaborators who first met while studying the diversity of nature at the Faculty of Science, University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa. The name Shinra<\/em> carries our reverence for the cycles of the natural world\u2014where trees grow, mushrooms emerge, and life continues through endless processes of decomposition and regeneration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Guided by the ideas of a circular bioeconomy and a regionally rooted green transition, we turn our attention to local resources and underutilized materials close at hand. We explore new forms of circular craftsmanship grounded in scientific knowledge, yet attentive to texture, sensation, and the quiet intelligence of the hands. Our work seeks to give experimental form to new ways of \u201cmaking\u201d that arise from everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At present, we are in an exploratory phase. Rather than rushing toward fixed answers, we are expanding possibilities through dialogue and small, tangible practices. After working with NEDO and Accenture, they joined ETIC., where they served as the lead coordinator for the Ministry of the Environment\u2019s Regional Transition Model Development Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2021, they founded NPO ER. to further advance practical transition initiatives. Their work includes supporting energy transition efforts in Unnan City, Shimane Prefecture; advising Maeno Corrugated Co. on business restructuring centered on circular economy principles; and promoting transition strategies for regional communities\u2014particularly areas hosting energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n By connecting society, industry, and local communities, their mission is to implement fair and sustainable transitions from the ground up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u535a\u58eb\uff08\u8fb2\u5b66\uff09\/\u3000\u4fe1\u5dde\u5927\u5b66\u5de5\u5b66\u90e8 \u7814\u7a76\u54e1 Ph.D. (Agriculture) \/ Researcher, Faculty of Engineering, Shinshu University<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n After earning a doctoral degree from Kyushu University, she served as an Assistant Professor at Shinshu University and the University of Miyazaki before assuming her current position. Her research specializes in bio-based materials derived from mushrooms and plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Shinra Creative Works operates independently from the university. No university facilities are used; instead, one room of her home has been transformed into a small workshop where experiments and product prototyping take place. The project aims to promote open-source approaches to material development and to create bio-based materials that anyone can begin working with in an accessible, hands-on way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Alongside her scientific work, she engages in watercolor-centered artistic practice, moving fluidly between science and art to explore new values and possibilities in materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n 2025\/9\/21—– A vision I\u2019ve been quietly nurturing over the past few months is finally taking shape\u2014 This is not part of my university research, but a personal and independent project born out of everyday life\u2014an exploration that lives in the space between daily practice and quiet curiosity. All creations and experiments are carried out at home, without the use of any university facilities or research funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A key goal of this project is also to draw a clear line between work and hobby. (Otherwise, things quickly spiral into chaos\u2026)<\/p>\n\n\n\n What I aim to do through this “atelier” is to bring bio-based materials closer to everyday life\u2014to rediscover them as something we can literally hold in our hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Just like pickling vegetables at home, I hope to share recipes and methods that make material-making something anyone can try\u2014open-source style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another essential aspect of this project is human connection<\/strong>. Going forward, I hope to expand collaborations with artists, writers, and craftspeople. I want to gently weave together what lies between research and creation, between nature and humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I also dream of developing materials that contribute to local circular economies<\/strong> and sustainable living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The name \u201cShinra\u201d comes from the Japanese phrase Shinra Bansho<\/em> (\u68ee\u7f85\u4e07\u8c61), meaning \u201call things in the universe.\u201d Currently, the first material I’m working on is still in the prototype stage. It\u2019s called DANKINPI<\/strong> (\u6bb5\u83cc\u76ae), a unique composite made from cardboard and mushroom mycelium. Once it takes more shape, I plan to publish it as a preprint as an independent researcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Through this project, I want to explore ways of sharing not just results, but also pure knowledge, curiosity, and sparks of excitement<\/strong>. It\u2019s called Shinra Creative Works<\/strong> (\u68ee\u7f85\u5de5\u623f). Not a company or startup\u2014just a self-declared little venture of mine \ud83e\udd23<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through materials, I\u2019ve been able to meet, think, create, and converse with all kinds of people\u2014and those little moments of connection are what keep this project alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I hope to express that vision through materials\u2014forests growing, mushrooms emerging, life returning in cycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
