ーーーーーーーーーー
Recently, I announced the launch of Shinra Creative Works on social media.
Today, I’d like to share a bit about the background that led up to this moment — and reflect on how my thoughts and feelings have shifted over the past few years.

Until 2024, I had been relentlessly pursuing my path as a researcher.
Driven by the desire to conduct the research I truly wanted — without constraints or interference — I was determined to secure a permanent position and establish my independence as soon as possible.
To achieve that, I believed I had no choice but to build up my academic track record, produce tangible results, and simply survive in academia.
Looking back, I realize I had been running forward in a constant state of urgency, clinging to that belief.

However, during my time living alone in Miyazaki, I gradually began to feel my limits.
On the surface, everything seemed to be going well, but deep down, something inside me was quietly wearing thin.
And yet, at the time, I still couldn’t bring myself to consider “returning to Nagano” as a real option.

Then, at the end of January 2025, my grandfather passed away.
That became a turning point—a moment when I started to face the feelings I had been avoiding.
In the quiet that followed, the inner hesitation I had about returning began to settle, and I eventually made the decision: to return to Nagano, to the place where my partner was waiting.

To be honest, I wasn’t particularly close to my grandfather.
But in recalling memories of him, what surfaced was the quiet way he lived.

He never sought the spotlight, but he consistently helped others in small ways—Volunteering in his local community, enjoying little things, quietly spreading kindness.
Though a man of few words, you could tell he cared about bringing joy to those around him.

He also had a subtle sense of style—his old bolo tie is now my travel charm.
I remember thinking, “If I could live like that—no grand gestures, just being near someone and doing what I can—that would be enough.”
And somehow, that thought loosened something that had been tightly wound in me.

I did feel scared about stepping half-away from academia.
There was some resistance, some regret.
It felt like I was facing my own limitations—and that made me feel vulnerable.

And yet, I also felt a strange sense of clarity.
As though I had finally given myself permission to walk a different path.

Shinra Creative Works quietly took shape in the midst of that shift.
Even now, I don’t fully know what it is.
Is it a project? A continuation of research? Or simply a form of expression?

But one thing I do know is this:
I want it to be a place where I return to my senses—to my intuition.
There is no single way to engage with society.
This is simply what feels natural to me right now—
A gentle, sustainable way of being that I am still figuring out.

Thankfully, I now find myself in a position where I can engage in academic research with a great deal of freedom.
Although my research effort is limited, I can work without the pressure of competition or overexertion.
Instead, I follow my curiosity, allowing it to guide me naturally toward meaningful connections.
Rather than “stepping away from research,” this has been a transition toward a more essential and sustainable style of research.

This has only been possible thanks to the understanding and support of Professor Hashimoto at ARIM, Shinshu University—my current affiliation—as well as Dr. Taguchi at the Aqua Regeneration Institute, and Koh-san and Nakauchi-san from the Taguchi Lab.

Looking ahead, I am also preparing to shift into a new academic role—one that engages more directly with the local community.
(Some of you may already know, as the local newspaper picked up the story, but I will share more details once everything is officially confirmed.)
I’m beginning to feel hopeful about a future where my life and work are rooted in the same place.

Although I left Miyazaki sooner than expected,
I remain deeply grateful to those I met there.
They respected my choices, and it was because of that environment that I was able to pause and reorient myself.

What’s emerging in Shinra Creative Works still lacks a clear definition.
Textures, how light passes through, the patterns that appear by chance—
I don’t yet know if this is art, material design, or simply play.
But I do hope to accompany these fragments with words and share them with others.

One idea I’m exploring is an exhibition centered on “circulation.”
Nothing truly disappears—everything transforms and moves.
And I feel quietly folded into that cycle myself.
I want to create a space where people can feel that, tangibly.

Not just exhibitions, but perhaps dialogue, writing, other forms of outreach.
There’s no single right way to connect with the world.
For now, these small practices feel most aligned with who I am.
If they can quietly resonate with someone else’s sensibility,
that alone would make it worthwhile.

Ever since my move from Miyazaki, I’ve been carrying a lingering unease.
It feels like I’ve finally begun to give that unease a name.
Shinra Creative Works is, in part, a space for reflecting on that journey.
