I wasn\u2019t able to update my blog in October and November as I had been under the weather.
After months of overactivity leading up to September, my brain simply shut down, and I spent about two months operating in low-speed mode. It was the same \u201cthing\u201d that the musician Kocchi no Kento<\/em> once spoke about. I\u2019ll write about that story another day.
Now that I\u2019m gradually recovering, I finally took a long-overdue trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 28th, I gave an invited lecture at Bio-Nanomaterials 2025<\/strong>, held at the Wood Science Hall of Kyoto University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was honored to receive this opportunity thanks to the recommendation of Professor Takuya Kitaoka from Kyushu University. I am truly grateful for his support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My lecture was titled:
\u201cNew Materials Emerging from Mushrooms: Mycomaterials for a Sustainable Future.\u201d<\/strong>
I introduced recent trends in mushroom-derived materials as well as the concept behind our own research on mushroom pulp<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other talks were just as inspiring\u2014ranging from precision design of nanocellulose materials, cutting-edge analytical techniques, discoveries of new cellulose-based materials, polymer development using cinnamic acid derivatives, macro-to-nano structural analysis of wood, transparent board paper, and more.
It was a dense and exhilarating three hours filled with hot topics in material science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the symposium, we enjoyed a networking session with delicious boxed meals. I rarely have the chance to speak with professors at Kyoto University, so it was a delightful opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

I stayed overnight, and before taking the train home the next day, I used the extra time to check out the aquatic biodiversity of Kyoto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes\u2014the Kyoto Aquarium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I finally got to see a live Japanese giant salamander, which was such a moving experience.
At the gift shop, I also grabbed the \u201cFunbalz\u201d giant salamander I\u2019d had my eye on. It\u2019s a charming and surprisingly functional item\u2014you place it between your torso and desk to improve posture. My desk-work motivation skyrocketed instantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also got to admire the giant salamander Christmas tree, which made the visit even more perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It turned out to be a wonderful rehabilitative trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

December is packed with tasks (alarmingly so!), but I\u2019ll be tackling them one by one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
