2025年7月10日〜11日、セルロース学会の年次大会に参加してまいりました！
今回はなんと、初の口頭発表。しかも昨年は体調不良により、無念のドクターストップで不参加だったため、私にとってはまさにリベンジの場でもありました。そして、こうして無事に戻ってこられたことをお知らせする「回復宣言」でもありました。
セルロース学会は、伝統ある学術集会です。全セッションが一つのホールで行われる、パラレル無しの単独進行スタイル。発表者も聴講者も、みんな同じ空間で同じ時間を共有する——そんな一体感がこの学会の醍醐味です。今年は約300名ほどが参加されていたようで、会場は熱気に満ちていました。
発表の時間枠が限られていることもあり、口頭発表に選ばれること自体が大変光栄なこと。そのような貴重な機会をいただけて、本当にありがたく思っています。
本番では、緊張のあまり少し声が上ずってしまいましたが、内容はしっかり届いたようで、終了後にはたくさんのコメントや質問をいただくことができました。ご清聴くださった皆さま、心より感謝申し上げます。
発表内容について
今回の発表では、私が研究・開発を進めている「キノコ（菌糸）パルプ」のコンセプトを紹介しました。
また、セルロース学会という舞台に合わせて、「セルロースとキノコの接点」や、「キノコがもつ資源循環型社会（サーキュラーバイオエコノミー）への可能性」についてもお話ししました。
一部、レイシの組織構造やキノコパルプのナノファイバー化に関する未発表データも含んでいたため、スライドの全ては掲載しておりません。

出会いと広がり
今回の学会では、研究の発表だけでなく、多くの素敵な出会いがありました。特に女性研究者の皆さんとの交流はとても刺激的で、新たなコラボレーションの企画も立ち上がりそうな予感です。
やはり、対面学会ならではの偶然や縁があるからこそ、こうした繋がりが生まれるのだと思います。
来年もまた、この場に立てるよう、そしてもっと良い発表ができるよう、引き続き努力してまいります。

From July 10th to 11th, I had the pleasure of attending the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Cellulose Society.
This time was particularly special — it marked my very first oral presentation at this conference. Last year, I was unfortunately unable to attend due to health reasons, so this felt like both a return and a personal redemption. I was overjoyed to be back, stronger and ready to share my work.
The Cellulose Society is known for its unique and prestigious format: all sessions are held in a single hall, with no parallel tracks. That means everyone—presenters and audience alike—shares the same space, creating a powerful sense of unity and focus. This year, about 300 participants gathered, and I could feel the collective energy in the room.
Given the limited time slots, being selected for an oral presentation is truly an honor, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity.
I have to admit—I was a bit nervous, and my voice quivered at times! But thankfully, the audience seemed to understand my message well, and I received many thoughtful comments and questions after the talk. Thank you all so much for listening.
About My Presentation
My talk introduced the concept of “mushroom (mycelium) pulp”, a novel biomaterial I’ve been developing.
Since this was the Cellulose Society meeting, I made sure to highlight the intersection between cellulose and fungi, and how mushrooms are gaining attention as a key player in promoting a circular bioeconomy.
I also touched on the nanoscale processing of mushroom pulp, but some of the data—especially those related to Ganoderma (Reishi) tissue structures—are still unpublished. For this reason, I’m only sharing selected slides below.

New Connections and Collaborations
One of the highlights of the conference was the opportunity to meet so many inspiring researchers. I especially enjoyed connecting with other women scientists, and there’s already talk of launching a collaborative project together. ✨
These kinds of serendipitous connections are what make in-person conferences truly irreplaceable.
I’m more motivated than ever to keep pushing forward and aim to present again next year—with even more exciting results to share.
